A family feedlot…

Although the growth and change is substantially reflected in the business, the principals are still the same as they were in 1935, three generations back when Tim's Grandparents arrived from the Mallee Country in South Australia.

about us

Weeroona Feedlot is a family run business based at Guluguba in South West Qld.  Approx 45km North of Miles. The family business which includes Tim's parents - Don and Robyn Stiller, also encompasses breeding and backgrounding on approx. 40,000 acres of country.  The business employs two families; and has been a long term Woolworths Supplier, continuously, since the first grain-fed cattle trucked in1992.

Berthold Stiller was a farmer, and did horse breaking for the likes of Sir Sidney Kidman before his move to Queensland, having the drive to turn his hand to anything. Bert and Amanda settled on 500 acres in the Downfall Valley, Guluguba, They commenced clearing the Brigalow country, by hand, dairying and growing crops. This is now a highly productive cattle grazing area.

In the late 1950's, to allow his parents to retire, Don purchased the property which by then had grown to 3000 acres. In 1964 Don married Robyn, a local country girl who knew the benefits of good Bookkeeping.

Over the next 50 years, at times under harsh economic and environmental conditions, the family has expanded the business to 40,000 acres, by the purchasing of neighbouring properties.  This was managed by "always looking outside the square and being open to change." The droughts brought about the inclusion of supplementary feeding and this is where the Feedlot story begins.

When Tim left school he joined his father and brother Ross, to establish the feedlot.  The feedlot commenced on a shoestring budget of homemade self-feeders, 44 gallon drums and buckets.

Today it is a far cry from the inception; together Tim and Tammy have overseen a license expansion and mechanising to enable efficiency of labour and resources. Like his Grandfather and Father before him Tim has been physically engaged in the expansion including its construction process. His drive comes from the advice given to him, that "there is no such word as can't".  As the next generation join in, they are also encouraged "to keep in mind the past, look to the future with a broad perspective and to embrace change as it rolls around".

“To keep in mind the past, look to the future with a broad perspective and to embrace change as it rolls around”
— Tim Stiller, Weeroona Family
